The Vetting Committee

History

The Patriot Vetting Committee began in December, 2009, as an ad hoc collaboration of several individuals who met on the “Tea Party Patriots” discussion list. The common interest was to support consensus-building procedures among the various patriot groups for patriot candidates in the 2010 elections. One of these individuals, Lee Havis, stayed on to the present time, to carry out the work of this committee. Lee contributes his time, skill and knowledge about candidate vetting at no charge to patriot groups throughout the country.

Political Activity

In the 1970’s, Lee became active in politics as a member and precinct official in the Democratic Party in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 1977, he organized an effort to reform internal party politics through a pre-primary vetting procedure open to all party members. Recognizing the limited effect of these internal party reforms, he later changed his party affiliation to “independent” and became active as a political organizer in the 1992 campaign of Ross Perot for President. In 1996, Lee formed the Maryland Public Assembly, to provide non-partisan vetting of candidates for all offices in the state of Maryland.

Professional Career Activity

Lee’s adult life has been mostly as a teacher and educator. In 1979, he founded the International Montessori Society (IMS) to support his interests and discoveries in an innovative type of Montessori teaching. As IMS director, he has published many writings on the subject and conducted workshops and seminars throughout the world.

Lee has also been active in support of education freedom, for example, serving a tenure as president of a national coalition known as “Americans for Choice in Education” (ACE). His educational background includes BS in Mechanical Engineering, J.D. in Law, BFT in foreign trade, and M. Ed. Main website: http://imsmontessori.org.
